ICF Singapore Chartered Chapter 2016-2017 Executive Committee Nominee

Tan Hun Boon Bio

After obtaining my MSc in Occupational Psychology, I started my career in the Ministry of Manpower and Workforce Development Agency, overseeing national HR development programmes. After a stint in entrepreneurship, I went into management consulting specialising in change management. A serious motor accident got me reflecting on my own career – what do I want to do with my life, really? It prompted my switch into leadership and career coaching. I now coach senior leaders in both private and public sector organisations, and help professionals with their career transitions. I also represent Singapore in international para-canoeing competitions.

My background and experience with ICF

I completed my coach training programme with the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) in 2013. Having clocked enough hours, I am currently in the process of applying for my ACC credential. Over the past 2 years, I have participated in ICF Singapore events and activities, such as the C4C programme, and these experiences have been uniformly positive. As a new coach, I had gotten a lot of encouragement from fellow coaches. Coaching is not an easy profession, and peer support is critical to growing the community.

What I envision contributing to the ICF Singapore Chapter

Now that I have gotten some coaching experience under my belt, I believe it is time to start giving back and contributing to the coaching community in Singapore. I am running for the role of the Communications co-chair (web site). I see ICF Singapore’s online presence as a powerful tool to strengthen the connections within the community, by complementing our offline efforts. I have a personal fascination with technology, and in my previous job, I have helped to design and maintain the company’s web site. I believe those experiences will come in very useful in this role.
